Pumpkins and decorative corn are two of our favourite things to grow! They are both beautiful and edible and they add diversity and fun to the gardens. We use them to decorate throughout the harvest season and then provide deliciousness all winter long!
These are the 2 crops the kids are responsible for. They have a pumpkin patch as well as some dedicated space to growing popcorn and drying corn. They help choose the varieties we plant, they plant the seeds and tend the seedlings and then harvest like crazy in the fall.
Our pumpkins are typically all varieties that are beautiful to look at but also delicious to eat. Almost all of the pumpkin and corn varieties we grow are heirloom varieties. Keeping some of these heirloom varieties going is really important to keeping biodiversity in our food ecosystems.
